Ministries

Ministry is the lifeblood of any church. In order to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), Cedar Grove Baptist Church endeavors to serve Newton and the surrounding communities in a number of ways. God has given our people some marvelous gifts which they use to help others as good stewards (I Peter 4:10). Our Sunday and Wednesday services are just a small portion of what Cedar Grove is all about. Below is a list of our regular ministries. We invite you to come serve with us, as we strive to reach our area for the Master!

Adults (Discipleship)

"Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." (Proverbs 27:17)

The interaction between our men and women is a cornerstone of lasting friendships and spiritual growth. While the worship services at Cedar Grove provide wonderful opportunities to connect with others, we recognize the importance of setting aside special time to deepen relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

To address this need, we organize special men's and ladies' nights throughout the year. These events often involve trips to Jackson or Meridian, where our community can come together to enjoy a delightful meal and engaging activities. In the fall, our ladies attend a Ladies' Conference, while our men participate in a Men's Conference, both contributing to personal and spiritual development.

Furthermore, the women of our church gather on the second Monday of every month at 6 PM, in our fellowship hall, for Ladies' Circle. This regular meeting provides an opportunity for women to come together, delve into God's Word, and enjoy special events that foster a sense of community and sisterhood.

At Cedar Grove Baptist Church, we recognize the importance of intentional fellowship to strengthen the bonds among our congregation, fulfilling the biblical principle that "iron sharpens iron." Join us for these enriching experiences that go beyond the typical worship service, providing a space for meaningful connections and spiritual growth.

Youth

At Cedar Grove Baptist Church, we hold the firm belief that our young people are not merely the "Church of Tomorrow"; they are an integral part of the church today. We are committed to providing teenagers with ample opportunities to serve and engage in fellowship within our community.

Our youth program offers dedicated Sunday School classes. Additionally, we host AWANA clubs on Wednesday nights, providing a space for spiritual growth and camaraderie. Throughout the year, we organize various activities designed to create a vibrant and supportive environment for our teens.

An annual highlight for our Youth Department is the Teen Xtreme Youth Camp in Pensacola, Florida. This camp serves as a powerful combination of wholesome events and biblical training, aiming to shape a generation capable of standing firm for Christ in these latter days.

At Cedar Grove Baptist Church, we are committed to nurturing the spiritual development of our young people, recognizing their current significance in the life of our church and their potential to be strong advocates for Christ in the world.

Couples’ Activities (Building Marriages, Strengthening Marriages)

Each year, our couples eagerly anticipate our Cedar Grove Baptist Marriage Retreat in Point Clear, Alabama. This romantic weekend getaway is a special time for husbands and wives to invest in their relationship, enjoy quality time together and bring a refreshing boost to their marriage.

At Cedar Grove, we believe in the importance of nurturing strong and thriving marriages, and these events are designed to create meaningful moments for couples to connect, grow, and celebrate the bond they share. Join us for these enriching experiences that contribute to the vitality of marriages within our church community.

Senior Adults

Every last Tuesday of the month, our senior adults come together with Pastor Cozart at Cedar Grove Baptist Church for a cherished time in God’s Word, accompanied by delightful fellowship. We warmly welcome new faces to join this gathering. Whether you are an "official" senior adult or simply feel like one, it would be our pleasure to have you with us at 10 A.M. Share in the wisdom, camaraderie, and spiritual enrichment that define this special time dedicated to our cherished senior members.

Missions

Cedar Grove Baptist Church is deeply committed to supporting missions, both locally and globally. We are excited to begin our faith promise missions program in 2024 we are also actively involved in Foreign and State missions through the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Association. For over 40 years, Mount Pisgah has been serving the Lord in Chile, South America, where fourteen Baptist churches have been established and entrusted to national pastors. Annually, representatives from sponsoring churches, including Cedar Grove, embark on missions trips to Chile to assist and uplift these works, contributing to the growth of this impactful ministry.

We proudly support David Nelson, who serves as evangelists throughout the state of Mississippi. With a special focus on correctional facilities and spreading the love of Jesus. Brother Nelson's ministry, No Greater Love, has distributed preaching cassettes and CDs by the thousands across the United States and to numerous countries globally. Cedar Grove Baptist Church is privileged to partner with these dedicated individuals as they bring the message of hope to those in need.

Beyond our ongoing commitments, Cedar Grove extends support to missionaries passing through Newton. We go the extra mile to ensure that those who have sacrificed much for the work of God are well cared for. Offering lodging, hot meals, and opportunities for interaction with our church community, we aim to make traveling evangelists, church planters, and missionaries feel at home at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. It is our joy and privilege to welcome and support these devoted individuals who play a crucial role in spreading the Gospel.

Community Days (Serving Our Community)

Civil Servants Day at Cedar Grove Baptist Church is an annual tribute held in September, dedicated to honoring the selfless men and women who serve in our communities as law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS professionals. During the morning service, all attending civil servants are recognized as our esteemed guests of honor and presented with a special token of appreciation. Following the service, a meal is hosted to provide an opportunity for fellowship and heartfelt gratitude extended to our dedicated first responders.

In addition, Cedar Grove Baptist Church proudly hosts a vibrant Fourth of July Celebration each summer. This event is open to the entire community, inviting everyone to partake in an evening filled with food, fun, fellowship, and a spectacular fireworks display. It is our way of celebrating and acknowledging the independence of our great nation while fostering a sense of community spirit and unity.
